How to make holes in objects using compound paths

You can use the Compound Path command to make holes in objects. For example, let us say you want to make an elliptical hole inside a rectangle. First draw an ellipse over the rectangle. Then select both the rectangle and the ellipse and click on Make command inside the Compound Path menu inside the Object menu. The ellipse is now a hole in the rectangle, and objects below will show through this hole.

Mayura Draw uses the even-odd rule to fill compound paths.
